REMOVAL

REMOVALDisable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment and possible personal injury or death.LHD model shown in illustrations. Driver side instrument panel duct shown. Passenger side duct similar.Remove the instrument panel and place it on a workbench (refer to 23 - BODY/INSTRUMENT PANEL/INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY - REMOVAL).Remove the instrument panel cover (refer to 23 - BODY/INSTRUMENT PANEL/INSTRUMENT PANE COVER - REMOVAL).Remove the demister ducts (refer to 24 - HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING/DISTRIBUTION/DUCTS-INSTRUMENT PANEL DEMISTER - REMOVAL).Remove the defroster duct (refer to 24 - HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING/DISTRIBUTION/DUCT-DEFROSTER - REMOVAL).Remove the screw (3) that secures the outlet end of each instrument panel duct (1) to the instrument panel support (2), as required.

Remove the screw (2) that secures each instrument panel duct (1 and 4) to the center of the instrument panel support (3), as required.Disconnect each instrument panel duct from the center duct (5) and remove the panel ducts, as required.CENTER

Remove the instrument panel and place it on a workbench (refer to 23 - BODY/INSTRUMENT PANEL/INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY - REMOVAL).Remove the instrument panel cover (refer to 23 - BODY/INSTRUMENT PANEL/INSTRUMENT PANEL COVER - REMOVAL).Remove the demister ducts (refer to 24 - HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING/DISTRIBUTION/DUCTS-INSTRUMENT PANEL DEMISTER - REMOVAL).Remove the defroster duct (refer to 24 - HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING/DISTRIBUTION/DUCT-DEFROSTER - REMOVAL).Remove the driver and passenger side instrument panel ducts (refer to DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE).If a foam seal on the top of the HVAC housing is deformed or damaged, the seal must be replaced.Remove the two screws (3) that secure the center duct (2) to the top of the HVAC housing assembly (4) and remove the duct from the instrument panel support (1).
